A walk up the Wrekin

We hadn't been up for a while given two awful summers on the trot

The Wrekin (pronounced ree-kin) is our very own local hill. It actually counts as a mountain as it's over !000'  (1335' to be exact).

Our little town is under the shadow of the Wrekin and is fully known as Wellington Under the Wrekin.

Today was forecast to be overcast but was a lot nicer than that so we set out- uphill all the way from our front door. It's about a 2000' climb from home.

The Winter had taken quite a few trees down  as it was a wild one and it's been a blowy Summer too.

Boston/Cambridge MA Record Heat!!!!

Boston (and here in Cambridge) is at The Highest Temperature It's Ever Been Today

The highest temperature recorded was 104 degrees Fahrenheit (40 Celsius) on July 4, 1911.

2:15 PM and we have matched that Record. And It Could Potentially Break that Record.

ABC News: New Covid Variant Spreading In USA Faster than CDC is Aware Of or Reporting

An Acquaintance on Pillowfort evidently contracted this. They do not live in one of the states where the spread has been reported, which means the CDC etc is being unreliable for info about it or at tracking it under the new administration.

They said :

"I am counting the first day I noticed any throat irritation as day 1 of symptoms. I started Paxlovid on day 4. I am currently on day 16 and dealing with profound fatigue and muscle weakness, though my cognition is okay. I tested positive for covid on day 13. I am up to date on my vaccinations and practice hand hygiene. I got this because I did not wear a mask indoors in crowded areas (was unable to due to work). The sore throat started mild, got progressively worse, reaching its zenith on days 3.5-5 or 6. I also experienced ear popping (days 3-13), congestion (worse on days 3-6, but still present on day 16)."

Yeah 13 days into the infection before they tested as positive.

Be Careful Out There! Mask if you are going to be inside in a crowd .

A walk into the forest

We headed up Lime Kiln Lane and over to New Works then into the forest.

Things are now very green indeed although this is always a green landscape:

Monday Musings 6;/16/25

I was going to say it's been busy.  It's just another Monday at work.   I arrived at approximately 7:30 and engaged in a discussion with KB and BL (Administrators) before commencing work.   The health logic sorting commenced at 11:30 following the completion of document printing.     I got them all sorted and ready to be scanned by 1. I spent the afternoon scanning but grew tired.

After work, I was glad to come home, relax, and cook since I had no other plans.   Sky emerged from the closet when I fed him.

Now that I think I will go to bed early.

Father's Day 2025

Morning!  It is Father’s Day.  To all who are fathers, on every level have a wonderful day.  My father passed away 36 years ago.   My God Father was my brother B and he has been gone 13 years now.  I don’t make cemetery visits on holidays like today.  They occasionally come to mind.

I have been awake this morning since five.  Sky successfully got me up at 5:30 to feed him.  I have been watching NCIS, a little of The Virginian and Wagon train.  I might go back to sleep.

Martha sent a message to the guild last night about D’s husband.  No one has responded but that’s to be expected.   I will go to the wake, but I won’t be able to go to the funeral.  I need to work.

The weather is overcast, with a temperature of 60°F.    It is supposed to get up to 68 degrees. It may not appear warm, but it likely will be.

I have finished my text chats and sorted through some papers.   I still get doubts when I look at the stuff.  Yesterday, I read tips on what, when, and how to toss.   I am trying it.

I need to start using laundromats for my laundry.   The one I have in the house is old and the dryer is making loud high pitch squeaking noise.  I reviewed the prices online, and it is currently beyond my financial capacity to afford them.

As it is approaching 9:30, I must prepare for rest.   I chose to visit the laundromat around noon after Sky deposited a hairball on one of the throws on the couch.   I went to Sock Hop laundromat, but it was crowded, so I decided to get groceries instead.  I'll go to the laundromat later this week.

Finished some tasks and talked with Don from next door.   Sometimes I don't understand him.

I am done for the day

I managed to clean most of my small bathroom.  Most of the living room, and my bedroom.  I need to finish making the bed and folding the remaining clothes.  I am slowly decluttering the office.  I managed to get rid of some old catalogs and last Year’s Milford Living Magazine.  I have more work to complete, and I will continue it tomorrow.

I've been texting with Mama Roberta this week.   She sent me some beautiful baby pictures of her granddaughter.  Mama just had her 4th round of Chemo Friday.  It is unclear if it exhausted her as much as the previous week, but she was able to attend a dinner meetup.   I'm hesitant to call her because I don't know if she's undergoing chemo or recuperating.

It's almost 11, and I haven't done much.   I spent the evening watching TV and surfing the net.  I discovered that a woman I know from the Ladies Guild lost her husband last week and his services are next week.  I emailed President Martha the information.

I'm sleeping on the couch tonight.   I was too lazy to make the bed.   Sky is on the cat tree.  He did his nightly roaming about an hour ago.

I will clean the kitchen tomorrow.   I nearly slid on something spilling water and luckily didn’t fall or break anything
